Swedish Massage

Drift away to your favourite place while improving your health and reducing stress and anxiety.

Swedish massage uses five styles of long, flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are:

  • effleurage (sliding or gliding)
  • petrissage (kneading)
  • tapotement (rhythmic tapping)
  • friction (cross fiber)
  • vibration/shaking.

Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain and joint stiffness. The term “Swedish” massage is actually only recognized in English and Dutch speaking countries, and in Hungary. Elsewhere (including Sweden) the style is referred to as “classic massage”.

Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a treatment modality that manipulates the soft tissues of the body including movement for a specific therapeutic effect, rather than a general therapeutic effect. It uses relevant techniques, lubricants and movements according to the client’s needs and response. This leads to the healing process, which begins at the cellular level aiding soft tissues in repairing, restoring functional integrity and adapting back to health.

This treatment aims to relieve symptoms related to a specific injury or muscular problem/dysfunction and includes a range of techniques:

  • trigger points
  • cupping
  • myofascial release
  • stretching.

Remedial massage is a deep massage done by a trained massage therapist, to create the conditions for the body’s return to normal health after injury or with muscular-skeletal disorders.

Pregnancy Massage

Massage during pregnancy has gained a lot in popularity within recent years. Originally, it tended to be limited to groups of women who favoured alternative therapies. But now it is seen as a valid and useful means of reducing general pregnancy discomfort. Recently research and evidence have shown a scientific basis for its benefits, though pregnant women seemed to have known this for a very long time.

Ante-Natal massage differs from general massage because there can be some risks if particular pressure points are stimulated. There also needs to be a level of sensitivity and gentleness extended by the therapist, which factors in the baby as well.

Relax and release the strain that pregnancy can have on your body.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains and contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation.

Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement. To do this, the massage therapist uses massage oil and often uses direct deep pressure. Muscles must be relaxed in order for the therapist to reach the deeper musculature.

Sports Massage

Injury treatment and prevention Massage to help get ready for an event or recovery after your sporting event.

Sports massage can treat a variety of ailments and injuries that may occur as a result of exercise. It also has other benefits that allow you to train or exercise more efficiently. Some benefits that sports massage has include:

  • draining away fatigue
  • relieving swelling
  • reducing muscle tension
  • promoting flexibility
  • injuries that occur as a result of overexertion or overuse
  • relieving pain
  • preventing injuries
  • improving heart rate and blood pressure
  • increasing blood circulation and lymph flow
  • treating injuries such as shin splints, tennis elbows, sprains and strains, corked thighs etc.

Manual Lymphatic Massage

Lymph drainage massage stimulates the lymph system with extremely light, circular pumping movements. By stimulating the lymphatic system, the therapist helps drain puffy, swollen tissues, supports the body’s immune system, helps the body heal from surgery, and aids in the body’s natural waste removal or detoxification. A gentle, rhythmic massage. MLD is painless, deeply relaxing comforting and healing. A great immune booster and for anyone suffering from lymphedema/fluid retention.

The lymphatic system is located directly beneath the skin, so the pumping, circular movements are very light. Manual lymph drainage should have a very soothing, relaxing effect. It can be used as part of a facial, or as a whole body treatment.

Indian Head Massage

Relax and revitalise your mind. A seated massage concentrating on the shoulders, neck, face and head.

An Indian head massage will energise your mind and allow tension to slip a way. This ancient technique has been practised for over a thousand years in India, being passed down from generation to generation. It is both a therapeutic and beauty treatment with many wonderful benefits. It involves using a sequence of moves such as energy balancing techniques, lymphatic drainage, acupressure points, stretching and general massage to the shoulders, neck, face and scalp. The techniques work on both the physical and ethereal body with over 60 movements.

Indian Head massage is so effective as it helps soothe and relax the nervous system while relieving joint and muscle stiffness. And of course it is very beneficial treatment for tension headaches and eyestrain. Also different strokes and pressure are used to stimulate the lymphatic and circulatory system. These are just a few of the therapeutic benefits of this technique.

Reflexology is massage of the feet or hands that aims to promote healing in other areas of the body. Modern reflexology is based on the principle that the foot has ‘reflex’ points that correspond to the various structures and organs throughout the body. For example, on the left foot, the tip of the big toe corresponds to the brain’s left hemisphere.

It can effectively treat a wide range of disorders including:

  • stress
  • circulation problems
  • impaired immunity

  • emotional problems.

Trigger Point Therapy

Releases tight bands(knots) in the muscles to improve function and relieve referral pain.

Trigger point therapy is effective in reducing or managing pain by addressing the original source of the pain and stopping the painful nerve firing at its source. To find these original sources of pain we use an array of range of motion, special and functional tests to determine what maybe causing your musculoskeletal dysfunction.

Techniques during a treatment session may include:

  • stretching
  • active resisted movement of limbs
  • direct compression of the muscle tissue
  • gentle joint mobilising techniques.

All of these are aimed at reducing or eliminating pain and returning the body to your normal functioning.
